66 Days To The Nashville Marathon

Progress towards the marathon is slow. The main problem is not my body, it’s my brain. Keeping focused, getting to the gym, and just getting it done has been tough with my work schedule and all the other things happening in life…

Still, progress is better than nothing. The marathon is a goal, to remind me that there’s a long course to run. And after the marathon in April, I’m looking ahead to summer to other marathons and shorter races so that I’ll continue to have a reason to train, improve and stay healthy.

In the meantime, I’ve also been getting bored with the weightlifting program I had been doing. It’s been effective, but it’s not keeping my interest. So while I look over the program and think about how I can switch things around, I’m going to try something different.

I was thinking about taking six weeks and trying to work out using a “natural” workout routine, rather than using the machine.

First, there is the One Hundred Push-Ups program that I’ve seen many people try. Second, there is Two Hundred Sit-Ups to work the core. And, finally, I’ve been looking over some routines and tips on how to improve the number of pull-ups I can do.

I figure, between these three exercises, I’ll work most of the muscle groups that I hit with the machine. It should be a fun diversion while I rework the lifting schedule and when I’m back on the machine in six weeks, I won’t have lost muscle (or not as much) as I would if I just “took a break”.

Anyhow. Sixty-six days to go until Nashville. Run!

The writeup is kind of an amusing cross between droll and earnest. I haven’t tried it yet, but I do own a sledgehammer, so I’m tempted.
