And now, to celebrate this joyous season…a special, extended, director’s cut, never-before-seen: Thanksgiving Weekend Trivia (now with two extra days of trivia!):
Wednesday: dinner with friends at Stir Crazy. I’m not crazy about the place (harhar) but it’s good enough when friends are involved. It’s also in between work and home, so hey!
Thursday: Thanksgiving with the family was really nice. No drama or bad news. Just a really relaxing family dinner and good food. Then! I got a call from a friend who was alone and wanted to talk. Finding a place open on Thanksgiving night? Not the easiest task…but we persevered!
Friday: A good walk with a friend in the middle of the day, dinner with other friends at Pacific East, and then drinks with still other friends at La Cave. Thankfully, I got a ride to and from Coventry that night because I had a few too many Left Hand IPA’s.
Saturday (day): Dewey’s coffee, as always and especially so after enjoying the beverages. Then a wedding at Holy Rosary in Little Italy. Had some time to kill, so Chris the Philosopher and I hit Bar Cento for three hours and enjoyed the Rodenbach Grand Cru on tap. I can’t get enough Rodenbach, it seems. We also had a great discussion about Adorno’s theory on aesthetics and it’s relationship to Buddhism. To summarize it for those who missed it: “the butler did it.”
Saturday (night): The wedding reception at Donauschwaben was perfect. Low key, huge (400 people!), incredible wine, good food, great DJ and…yeah. None of the cliche stuff, either – no garter, no “roasting” the groom, etc. Just right: classy yet understated in all the right ways.
Sunday: Visited the Butler Art Museum in Youngstown. Enjoyed seeing some new art. They had a holography exhibit that ran from “meh” to “holy cow”. Worth seeing. Had amazing pizza at a place I think was called Avalon Gardens. Was informed of a new word called beveraging, as in “we went beveraging last night and I had a wicked headache today as a result.”
And now, I sleep. Goodnight, everybody. See you tomorrow.
