My friend, The Doctor, has a philosophy: If you’re feeling stressed out or sad or lonely, buy yourself flowers.
For The Doctor, who has a great condo and an even better sense of style, this works. When she buys flowers for herself, they belong there.
I’m a clunky guy who is always fighting piles of paper and clutter. I’ve been given flowers before but they seem out of place in my house. Also, they are always a gift from a female friend.
So, I’m not sure that I can buy flowers for myself and seem manly.
The Doctor and another friend, both of them women, strenuously disagree with me on this one. They say a man can buy anybody, including himself, flowers at any time and still be manly. I’m not convinced.
Opinions?
(Maybe a man is only allowed to buy himself a manly flower? If so, what would that even be?)

Orchids, maybe? They’re exotic and dramatic, but not necessarily feminine. IMHO.
I’m fond of roses, very dark red to purple. None of that sissy pink stuff. Bonus points if they actually smell like roses.
See, I’m still thinking “flowers in my house?!?”.
I think my problem lies deeper than picking a manly flower…
buy a flowering plant. maybe a cactus? they have flowers… and the thorns can be percieved as hyper-masculine phallic non-girly accessories for your dining room table.
