The long day ahead

Change takes work and personal responsibility.
Political parties are like corporations: Both are bureaucracies. Bureaucracies shelter individuals from direct and personal responsibility.

My Republican friends, observers and conservative organizations will watch the Democrats as closely as we’ve seen the Republicans watched, scrutinized and criticized by Democrats and liberals in the last eight years.

It is more important that Democrats, that the people who voted for Obama, are even more watchful.

We
We are the people who are responsible for holding our elected Democrat representatives up to the standards they proclaimed they held as they ran for office.

We need them to remember that they need to follow-through and that it’s their personal responsibility to deliver.

We need to remember that change is difficult and requires courage… that our voice of support and encouragement to do the right thing is as important tomorrow as it was yesterday, when we voted.

We believe in change.

As Obama said last night, better than I can say here:

What began twenty-one months ago in the depths of winter must not end on this autumn night. This victory alone is not the change we seek – it is only the chance for us to make that change. And that cannot happen if we go back to the way things were. It cannot happen without you.

Today is a day full of hope, but the sun is just starting to rise. We have a long day ahead of us.

As we celebrate this victory, we cannot forget the reason we needed or wanted it.

I just took what Obama said yesterday and went one step further. He pointed out that there is work to be done, but we all have a responsibility to be involved.
