This was a pretty good weekend.
John Tejada is a guy who knows his craft. He played at the b-side on Friday. The music was great. Turn-out was good even though it was raining. People were very cool and the dance floor was busy. I got to drink beer. What else could you want on a Friday night?
Lakewood Lizard somehow made it onto the list, for Sunday football, when a friend I haven’t seen in months reappeared. I don’t think I was ever at that Winking Lizard. While I’m not a huge fan of the chain, it’s predictable and has a great beer list. At the risk of sounding like a drunk, I got to drink beer, watch a few games and catch up with an old friend. What else could you want on a Sunday afternoon?
Trek vs Sex? was a strange conversation I had this weekend. I was talking to a woman and the subject of Sex and the City came up. While talking about the series, a guy wandered up and started listening. I mentioned to her that I owned the series on DVD. Wandering-Up Guy said “I thought only gay men owned that on DVD.”
OK. It turns out Wandering-Up Guy owns the Star Trek series on DVD. Let’s compare:
1) Clothing
Trek: guys in leotards prance around and occasionally wrestle with each other.
SatC: women wear fashionably revealing clothing, running around NYC and occasionally undress.
2) Dialogue
Trek: “Recalibrate the warp core and focus the main collector.”
SatC: Women talk about sex.
3) Maturity
Trek: Is like watching cartoons, asking mom for a cup of hot chocolate.
SatC: Is like having a drink while chatting with an attractive woman about sex and gender.
Yeah…riiiiight. Have fun - alone - on your lonely little holodeck, Wandering-Up Guy. Oh…and don’t butt in on my conversation, next time, with such a stupid homophobic comment. You idiot.\
