Humble Beginnings

The previous owners left me with a garden that needed little tending the first year. My main concern was to keep the lawn mowed. That wasn’t always easy, given my schedule, but I managed.

This year, I need to start working on the yard a bit. The lawn was (is still) “organic” which translates to “lots of weeds”. I was gifted with a bunch of hosta. The flower beds are all starting to lose their sharp edges.

So tonight, after two hours, I created a new flower bed on a strip of grass I never really liked. I transplanted the first of the hosta and put down some mulch. This should be a good weekend for working in the yard.

Edit: This should help me get a good night of sleep…it was more work than the photography suggests. Removing the sod without removing all the topsoil was a good arms and core workout. I got a decent blister on the palm of my right hand. I guess I won’t be … well, anyhow … it will be a quiet night for me.
