Distracted by people who actually write…

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

I stumbled across a website called Books Written by a few weeks ago. There’s not much to the site. It’s simply a collection of images that show the front-page of the websites of a whole bunch of authors.

It’s an interesting site to browse. Seeing nine author sites, side-by-side, is certainly a case of judging books by their covers. I found myself visiting sites that looked interesting (although illegible as thumbnails). I clicked on Murakami’s site because it looked interesting…only to find myself a little annoyed by the site.

On the other hand, Jonathan Lethem’s site seemed to be a Bad Idea at first but then I was compelled to wait 20 seconds to see what might appear next…and next…and then just left it open and popped over occasionally to see what had appeared.

Anyhow. Yeah. Random post. I know…but this is the kind of thing that’s been my problem in the last month or so. There’s this buffet of interesting stuff that keeps twinkling and I go look at the stuff for a few seconds…only to discover that I’ve been distracted for an hour when I next look up from the new thought-toy.

Thanks for visiting. Creating sites like this is also a distraction that keeps me from my own writing. But I just can’t help myself!

It was a pleasure to find your site! I’m happy to share it, too. The combination of authors with their site design is interesting to consider.

It’s marketing, I know, but websites still seem to be very personal things, when a single person is being represented. Even if the sites of the authors are corporate creations, they still seem to belong to the author…
