In a comment yesterday, Pete pointed out that there is a long history of photographic manipulation.
It makes me think that the problem is the situation in which a photograph is presented. The Aziz + Cucher photographs are clearly meant to be “art” and not a record of people who have no eyes, nostrils or mouths.
On the other hand, these videos show how a photograph can be altered in ways that change the meaning but don’t clearly show how the meaning has been changed. The second one shows how the “cost” of manipulating a photograph has dropped in terms of time and costs.
