Running from Insomnia

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

It’s been almost a year since I had consecutive nights of insomnia. There’s nothing really bad about it, except that you can’t really focus on anything. The days become a droopy gray copy of real life.

After a day or two, even though I’m still functional, I feel like I’m in some strange in-between world. On one hand, it’s liberating because it means that “brainstorming” takes on entirely new dimensions. When you aren’t “in the box” then you’re going to do all your thinking outside of it.

On the other hand, the physical weariness just makes everybody seem disconnected. Thus, it’s lonely. Even spending time with family and friends is still a ‘one-step removed’ experience. That’s a bummer.

The good news is that it’s not anything chronic. With exercise and some other simple management efforts, the insomnia goes away (and as a side-benefit, I get more healthy). When it does happen, it only takes a night of good sleep to get back to normal, so it’s not like a terrible disease that lingers.

Walking and running seem to be the best exercise for this. So it’s time to put the running shoes back on and check out WalkJogRun.net to create a few routes in my neighborhood.
